Giveaway: Daughter of Chaos {CLOSED}

Hey guys! So. . . I ordered Daughter of Chaos by Jen McConnel awhile ago, and promptly forgot about it. Then I picked up DoC at one of Jen's signings, and now have two copies. Which means one of these *signed* copies will go to one of you! The giveaway is US only, and will be open til May 3. Be sure to read all the rules (above the rafflecopter) before entering.

The Prize:
—A signed paperback of Daughter of Chaos by Jen McConnel
Witches must choose the path they will follow, and Darlena Agara is no exception. She’s been putting it off long enough, and in her case, ignoring it has not made it go away. In a moment of frustration, Darlena chooses to follow Red Magic, figuring she had outsmarted the powers that be, since there’s no such thing as Red Magic. But alas, Darlena’s wrong (again) and she becomes a newly declared Red Witch.

Her friends are shocked and her parents horrified by the choice Darlena has made. As a Red Witch, she now governs one third of the world’s chaos. She is the walking personification of pandemonium, turmoil, and bedlam, just as the patrons of Red Magic would have it to be.

But Darlena believes there must be more to Red Magic than chaos and destruction, and she sets out on a journey to achieve balance. Only doing so puts her at odds with the dark goddess Hecate, who simply will not allow Darlena to quit. She encourages Darlena to embrace who and what she is and to leave good magic to the good witches. If only Darlena could, life would be simple, and she would not be the Daughter of Chaos. (Taken from Goodreads)

The Rules:
—Must be 13 years or older to enter the giveaway.
—Open to US only.
—Giveaway ends 5/3/14 at 11:59pm EST
—Winner will have 48 hours to respond to our email, if no response is given a new winner will be chosen.
—All entries are checked, and any false entries will be deleted.

One & Only Blog Tour: Guest Post + Giveaway

We're so excited to be apart of the blog tour for. . .
One & Only by Viv Daniels!

Title: One & Only
Series: Canton #1
Author: Viv Daniels
Publisher: Self Published
Release Date: Nov. 8, 2013
Genre: NA Contemporary Romance
Buy: Barnes & Noble | Amazon | Amazon UK | Kobo | Smashwords

Summary:
One night they can't forget...

Tess McMann lives her life according to the secrets she's sworn to keep: the father who won't acknowledge her, the sister who doesn't know she exists, and the mother who's content playing mistress to a prominent businessman. When she meets the distractingly cute Dylan Kingsley at a prestigious summer program and falls in love, Tess allows herself to imagine a life beyond these secrets. But when summer ends, so does their relationship -- Dylan heads off to Canton College while Tess enrolls at the state university.

One love they can't ignore...

Two years later, a scholarship brings Tess to Canton and back into Dylan's life. Their attraction is as strong as ever, but Dylan has a girlfriend…who also happens to be Tess's legitimate half-sister. Tess refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps, which leaves her only one choice: break the rules she’s always followed, or allow Dylan to slip away for a second time.

...And only one chance to get things right.

~~~~~
The Guest Post (by Viv Daniels)
In my book, ONE & ONLY, the hero, Dylan Kingsley, is a bioengineering major and an avid foodie. When he first meets the heroine Tess, he extols the virtues of Cornell cheese. Later, he makes her dinner based on a recipe for baked shrimp and feta cheese that he learned while on a trip to Greece the summer before. This is how you make it:
Dylan’s ONE & ONLY Shrimp and Feta
—1 Tbsp olive oil
—1 medium onion, chopped
—2 cloves garlic, minced
—2 cans of diced tomatoes
—1/4 cup minced fresh parsley
—1 Tbsp minced fresh dill or 1 teaspoon dried dill
—1 lb medium sized raw shrimp, peeled and deveined (can leave tails on), thaw if frozen but running under cool water for several minutes
—Salt and pepper to taste
—1 cup feta, crumbled
~~~

1) Preheat oven to 425°F. Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat. Add the onions and cook until softened, 3-5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook about 30 seconds more.

2) Add the tomatoes (with juice) and bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 5-10 minutes, until the juices thicken a bit.

3) Prepare an oven-proof casserole dish with thawed, raw shrimp, herbs, and feta. Remove onion/tomato mixture from heat, pour over the shrimp, etc., in the casserole dish. Place pan in the oven and bake, uncovered, until shrimp are cooked through, about 10-12 minutes.

Serve immediately with a loaf of crusty bread and the person you love most in the world.

But wait! There's more:

The first time he and Tess spend the night together, he makes her homemade baklava. Baklava is a sticky, buttery, decadent Greek dessert, and it’s not actually that hard to make on your own. Here’s Dylan’s recipe:

Dylan’s ONE & ONLY Baklava

—1 package phyllo dough
—4 cups chopped walnuts
—1 teaspoon cinnamon
—1 1/2 sticks melted butter
—2 cups honey
—1/2 cup water
—1/2 cup granulated sugar
—2 teaspoons vanilla extract

~~~
1) Thaw a package of phyllo dough in fridge for 24 hours. When ready to make baklava, take dough out of package and cover with a damp cloth to keep moist while working.
2) Preheat oven to 350 degrees Farenheit. Butter the bottom and sides of a glass, 9x13 inch baking pan.
3) Toss the chopped nuts with the cinnamon.
4) Butter a sheet of phyllo and place it in the pan. Repeat this process six more times.
5) Spread a thin layer of the nut mixture on the top sheet.
6) Butter two more sheets of phyllo and place them in the pan.
7) Repeat steps 5-6 until you run out of nuts (usually this is 3-4 layers, total).
8) Top with 6 more sheets of buttered phyllo dough. Butter the top sheet.
9) Cut the pan through all the layers into a diamond shape by cutting 5-6 long diagonal cuts from corner to corner across the pan.
10) Bake for 45 minutes, or until golden brown.
11) While baklava is cooking, make sauce by simmering water and sugar until melted, then stirring in honey and vanilla until smooth and melty. Reduce heat to low, then simmer for about 20 minutes.
12) As soon as baklava leaves oven, drizzle sauce over the top. Start with half the sauce, then keep adding until it’s good and saturated.
13) Leave sit for several hours until it’s all nice and sticky. Eat it all up. If you have leftovers (and why would that be?) don’t cover them, as it makes the baklava soggy.
Enjoy with a loved one!
Vampire Week: Signed Vampire Academy Giveaway
Vampire Week is an event hosted here at T3 to celebrate the release of Holly Black's
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown. Click the banner for more information.
Today I have a signed copy of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead, waiting to be given away. And I'm giving away winner's choice of a Bloodlines or VA book, too! So you get 2 books for the price of 0! (Sadly, the 2nd book won't be signed, as the bookstore I will get it from doesn't have any more signed stock.) The giveaway lasts until the end of the day Sept 10. Standard rules apply (all listed above the rafflecopter), with one exception—the winner only has 24 hours to respond, instead of 48.
Note: Both polls are no longer accepting entries, but I've left the "vote in the poll" option on the rafflecopter, because, while it seems unlikely, I don't want to accidentally delete the valid entries you guys got before either poll closed. All "vote in the poll" entries after 12am Sept 7th will be deleted. (But, as it states in the "Day 2 comment" entry, if you leave a comment to unofficially vote in the "Would you want to live in a coldtown?" poll, your entry will be counted.)
The Prize:
—A signed paperback of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
—Choice of book from the Vampire Academy or Bloodlines series', unsigned
The Rules:
—Must be 13 years or older to enter the giveaway.
—Open to US only.
Sweet Legacy Book Blitz: Excerpt + Giveaway
We're so excited to be apart of the book blitz for. . .
Sweet Legacy by Tera Lynn Childs
We have an SL excerpt from Grace's POV, but first, a little bit about the book (be wary of the synopsis as this is the 3rd & last book in the series):
Title: Sweet Legacy
Author: Tera Lynn Childs
Series: Medusa Girls #3
Publisher: Katherine Tegen Books (HarperCollins)
Release Date: September 3, 2013
Greer has always known she was privileged, though she had no idea how special her second sight made her, even among her triplet monster-fighting sisters. But when a god starts playing with her mind, can Greer step up in her pretty high heels to prevent anything from stopping her sisters’ mission?
Grace loves her adopted brother, Thane, but now that he’s back and has joined her sisters’ team, it’s clear his past is full of dark mysteries. She wants to trust him, but will Thane’s secret put the girls in even more danger?
Gretchen knows she can rely on her sisters to help her stop the monsters. But after getting to know some of the beasties in the abyss, she finds her role as a huntress comes with more responsibility than she ever imagined. How can she know what her birthright demands of her now?
The girls cannot hesitate as they seek the location of the lost door between the realms, even as monsters and gods descend on San Francisco in battle-ready droves. In this exciting conclusion to the Sweet Venom trilogy, these teenage heirs of Medusa must seek the truth, answer the ancient riddles, and claim their immortal legacy.
My hands shake a little as I fumble with the backpack zipper.
“I’m perfectly all right, Grace,“ she insists. “Truly.“
I watch her, study her, checking for—I don’t know—signs of pain or a bad reaction to the poison or something. She pats me on the arm before grabbing one of the reorganized backpacks and carrying it over to where Gretchen has piled the ones staying here. Except for the disheveled hair and slightly pale skin, she looks fine, though. I hope that means she really is fine.
“She’s stronger than she looks,“ Thane says.
He’s watching her intently, just like I was doing a second ago.
He’s right. She may not have Gretchen’s physical strength, but inside she’s tough. Bugging her and making her reassure me over and over isn’t very helpful or healing.
“I know,“ I reply, turning to lean back against the table.
Thane doesn’t move. He just stands there, staring blankly across the cave. He’s not quite looking at her anymore. Like he’s trying to act casual.
After more than half a lifetime together, I can read him too well. I can see beneath the surface. She drops a bottle of water and his eyes are immediately on her as she bends to pick it up. Though he’s trying to hide it, his attention is fully focused on Greer. Something more is going on here than he wants me to know, and considering everything that’s happening it’s past time he told me. Secrets lead to problems.
Vampire Week is an event hosted here at T3 to celebrate the release of Holly Black's
The Coldest Girl in Coldtown.
YAY! Vampire Week is here! Of course, you just found out yesterday, but I came up with Vamp Week months ago. If you missed the VW announcement yesterday, check out the bottom of this post for more info. Oh, and the Twitter hashtag for the event is #T3vampweek, which I'll be using a lot. :)
Today kicks off the poll and giveaway, and tomorrow we'll have my review of Coldtown, and a spotlight on Holly Black's Coldtown book tour. Check out the schedule below (there are still unconfirmed variables, so the schedule is tentative and subject to change).
(Updated daily)
Monday: Kickoff! Poll & Giveaway (this post)
Saturday: The Eternal Kiss anthology giveaway, signed by Holly Black
                        Poll winners announced
Originally, this was going to be a Top 10 Vamps poll, but when making the poll I realized that it would be holy-wow long. So now it's Top 10 Vamp Books, and since I pretty much only read/know about YA books, I've included a write-in answers box. Select or write-in your favorite vampire novel or series, and at the end of the week I'll compile the answers into a Top 10 list. Vote away!
Because I loved the book enough to throw a week-long event in it's honor, it is only fitting that I give away a copy. I'm going to see Holly while she's on tour, so you'll get a signed & personalized Coldtown, too! Also, I think I may giveaway a second signed copy, but haven't decided yet, so I guess we'll see when the week's over. :) Now to the important info—the giveaway is US only, lasts until the end of the day Sept. 8, and entrants must be 13 years or older. Make sure to read the rest of the rules above the Rafflecopter before entering.
Note: If you guys visit throughout the week and participate in the daily discussions/posts, you'll get extra entries!
Note #2: Both polls are no longer accepting entries, but I've left the "vote in the poll" option on the rafflecopter, because, while it seems unlikely, I don't want to accidentally delete the valid entries you guys got before either poll closed. All "vote in the poll" entries after 12am Sept 7th will be deleted. (But, as it states in the "Day 2 comment" entry, if you leave a comment to unofficially vote in the "Would you want to live in a coldtown?" poll, your entry will be counted.)
The Savage Blue Blog Tour: Author Q&A [+Giveaway]
We're so excited to have the lovely Zoraida Córdova stop by the blog today on The Savage Blue blog tour! For our stop, Erin had the pleasure of doing a short Q&A with Zoraida. Ms. Córdova is also giving away 3 awesome mermish prize packs for those that buy The Savage Blue, so check that out after the Q&A. And here we go. . .
Erin: Are you a Plotter or a Pantser?
Zoraida: I used to be a big pantser. I would see the end of a story in my head and write towards that no matter what twists and turns happened to come up.
For book 2 and now book 3 I am definitely plotting. Ideas still spring up out of the blue,  but I try to make sure they make sense in the world I'm creating.
E: Do you listen to music while you write? If so, who?
Z: I have an eclectic mix of music. I love rock bands but sometimes I'll throw on a Taylor Swift song if it feels right. Other times I write in silence.
E: Who is your favorite character to write? Why?
Z: I love writing all of them. I know that's cheating! Tristan is fun because I feel like I can say anything through him.
Gwen is someone who is emotionally complicated, but she's so snarky that I love writing her verbal fights with others.
I also love Marty McKay. Even though he's a secondary character, he's always sees the bright side of things.
E: What was your favorite scene to write, in either of your books? (If from TSB, and not too spoilery, could I get a snippet?)
Z: I love writing interactions between Layla and Tristan. Like this...
I grip the dusty golden hilt and pull it out. The quartz piece comes to a sharp point. A soft glow emanates from inside the crystal. It comes and goes like the strips of florescent bulbs in my old classrooms. Kurt says it could be because the three pieces are meant to work together, and when they’re apart, they’re erratic.
Layla hooks her thumbs on the back of her shorts. “Is it heavy?”
“Not really.” I hold it horizontally and press on its weight, like a too-thick branch I can’t snap. “It’s solid though.”
“Can I touch it?”
“No.” I hold it over my head and away from her. “Did you see what my dagger did to Gwen’s hands?”
“Fine, I’ll get my rock candy on a stick.”
I make like I’m going to throw it at her, a fake basketball pass and she flinches. “See? You don’t really want it. You just want it because I have it…"
E: Do you have any writing rituals/things you have to have near you when you write?
Z: I have a stone called SELENITE. I'm not always superstitious. I have one piece that I carry with me often.
Paper reads: SELENITE: Highly protective stone. Clears dissension from body.
Stone of writers, artists, and healers. ELEMENT: Storm. CHAKRAS: All.
E: When drafting do you write on paper, a computer, or both?
Z: For drafting outlines I use index cards. I like writing on paper for as long as I can. When my thoughts start getting too fast, I switch to my laptop.
E: Name a book (not one of yours) that you love so much you just want to throw it upon everyone you meet. Why?
Z: My most recent book crush is Drink Slay Love by Sarah Beth Durst. It is original, funny, and has fantastic characterization.
E: We're all about tea here, so I must include a tea related Q. If you were to be a tea, what kind would you be? (Earl Gray, Ginger Peach, Chocolate Mint, to name a few)
Z: I suppose I would be the tea I drink the most--> Chamomile lemon because sleep is my favorite.
Giveaway: Grave Mercy or Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers {CLOSED}
Hey guys! So Amanda and I are going to Robin LaFevers' signing at Anderson's Bookshop on April 7th, and because I just LOVE the His Fair Assassin books (and want to shove them into the hands of EVERYONE), I'm giving away winner's choice of Grave Mercy in paperback or Dark Triumph in hardcover, to be signed and personalized at the event!
The giveaway starts now and goes through April 5th, so there's enough time for winner response before the signing. Also, the winner only has 24 hours to respond, and must be 13 years or older with a US mailing address. Be sure to read all the rules (just above the rafflecopter) before entering.
For those not familiar with Grave Mercy, here's the synopsis from Goodreads:
Why be the sheep, when you can be the wolf?
Seventeen-year-old Ismae escapes from the brutality of an arranged marriage into the sanctuary of the convent of St. Mortain, where the sisters still serve the gods of old. Here she learns that the god of Death Himself has blessed her with dangerous gifts—and a violent destiny. If she chooses to stay at the convent, she will be trained as an assassin and serve as a handmaiden to Death. To claim her new life, she must destroy the lives of others.
Ismae’s most important assignment takes her straight into the high court of Brittany—where she finds herself woefully under prepared—not only for the deadly games of intrigue and treason, but for the impossible choices she must make. For how can she deliver Death’s vengeance upon a target who, against her will, has stolen her heart?
And here is Dark Triumph's synopsis from Goodreads (not spoilery for GM):
Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge—but at a price. Naturally skilled in both the arts of death and seduction, the convent views Sybella as one of their most dangerous weapons.
But those assassin’s skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. Her father’s rage and brutality are terrifying, and her brother’s love is equally monstrous. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live. When she discovers an unexpected ally imprisoned in the dungeons, will a daughter of Death find something other than vengeance to live for?
This heart-pounding sequel to Grave Mercy serves betrayal, treachery, and danger in equal measure, bringing readers back to fifteenth century Brittany and will keep them on the edge of their seats.
Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.
Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything--her family, her future--to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.
With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.
